ALEXIS SORBAS – GREEK RESTAURANT
Picture: ALEXIS SORBAS RESTAURANT (Nikiforos Anastasiadis)
Alexis Sorbas is my absolute favorite in Frankfurt. It’s a little bit further away from the fair (3km) but definitely worth the trip! I always ask for some mixed starter for all guests (even if it’s not on the menu they are very happy to do it) and for the main dish I can recommend the crackling duck breast. Don’t forget the Ouzo!

LOHNINGER – AUSTRIAN CUISINE
Pictures: studio.morgen.org
Star chef Mario Lohninger opened a restaurant in the style of an Austrian guest house in the heart of Frankfurt. His goal is to present the delicious rich variety of the classic Austrian cuisine interpreted in a contemporary style. The restaurant was designed by MORGEN, a design studio that sees itself as a mediator between the professions of architecture, design, art, music, events and crafts.. Morgan was founded by architect Sabine Mühlbauer and artist Thomas Tritsch.

MON AMI MAXI – FRENCH BRASSERIE AND RAW BAR
Pictures: Mon Ami Maxi
Another hot spot in Frankfurt is a French brasserie called Mon Ami Maxi. I especially like the ambience of the whole building and the first class service. My recommendations would be obviously the escargots and the cotelettes d’argneau.

JIMMY’S BAR
Picture: Hessischer Hof Frankfurt
I mean, just look at the picture and now imagine some live piano music until 3am… Jimmy’s Bar is the right place if you are looking for some proper drinks and the best cocktails in town for your ladies. Sometimes when you sit at the bar you’ll get to know Andrès Amador, the dinosaur of Frankfurt nightlife (he would be the guy serving you). No barkeeper in town is as long in business as he is (he startet working in Jimmy’s Bar in 1976!!!). Right across from the Frankfurt Messe main entrance you will find the Grandhotel Hessischer Hof. Jimmy’s is the Hotelbar. Just ring the Doorbell before 4am and they will open it for you.

ROOMERS HOTEL BAR
Pictures: Roomers Hotel
An old quaint office building has been transformed into the Roomers Hotel by Grübel, an architectural firm best known for its sleek work with BMW. Romanian interior designer Oana Rosen has created a conceptual yet wholly enjoyable hotel bar. The bar is decorated in the seemingly opposing styles of ornate austerity, but the result is both stunning and exciting. Go here on Friday and don’t come too late or very late on Saturday as the Bar can get very packed. Expect laid back cool barkeeper and loud DJ music. Be careful as loosing time there is damn easy!

ALT-OBERURSELER BRAUHAUS
Pictures: Alt-Oberurseler Brauhaus
This place is worth the trip (15km from the fair) if you want to go for some traditional German food. The restaurant and brewery (yes they brew their own beer and they have an in-house distillery!!!) is located in a historical building and offers a rustic and cosy ambience for your guests.

JASPER’S
Pictures: Jasper’s
The Jasper’s one thing not! Easy to find! Hidden in a small backyard in Frankfurt’s Sachsenhausen, Jasper’s is a true insider tip. Once you put a step into the door you will feel the authentic atmosphere and get the sense of the real feel-good gastronomy. At Jasper’s they serve international dishes but mostly French and German cuisine made by long-lost recipes. Delicious, for sure!

AMBIENTE GALA
Pictures: Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH / Pietro Sutera
The Ambiente Gala happens on Saturday night and it can be a fun event as all exhibitors are invited (you need to get your tickets in advance). The party theme is dedicated to the Ambiente partner country which was Japan in 2014 and will be USA in 2015. I prefer Sake to american beer but let’s see what they come up with.
